Must-read history book for kids and homeschoolers
I wish this book had been available when I was homeschooling my boys. Tricia Goyer does an amazing job presenting history and faith in her book Prayers That Changed History (ZonderKids, 2015). It would work well as a read-aloud or a chapter book read for elementary kids. My Amazon review is below:
This little history book is both riveting and inspiring. Goyer writes with authority, intelligence, and compassion, weaving together short biographies of Christian heroes who changed the world, like Martin Luther, David Livingstone, Helen Keller, and Mother Teresa. Each chapter is about 10 pages, including an engaging biographical story, an application (“Something to think about”), the hero’s own prayers or journal entry, an inspiring follow-up (“How he/she changed history”), and a Bible story of a character that made a similar impact. Each chapter ends with a short thesis to remember, like “Sometimes God uses those who are young to spread the good news.” Pictures, fonts, and tone make this an engaging read for kids or adults. I read this in one sitting, but I plan to read it to my son at bedtime, one inspiring story each night, to reinforce that he can make a difference in the world!
